Southampton and Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu who rejected his earlier call-up to represent Ghana during the AFCON and FIFA world cup qualifier has again turned down the offer to join the senior national team during the AFCON tournament to be held in Cameroon.
Salisu has been on of Southampton’s best defenders so far this season and this has thrown light on the performance of the player by the Ghanaian technical team.
The Southampton defender declined his first Black Stars call-up in 2019, citing injury concerns and has rejected another invitation to join the senior national team in his bid to help his club Southampton to redeem their shape on the English Premier League table
Former Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor admitted last year that the Ghana Football Association had approached Salisu about playing for Ghana.
However, the association’s efforts were deemed futile, as the 22-year-old turned down the opportunity.
The Southampton defender has stated unequivocally that he is not ready to serve on the national team.
With Coach Milovan yet to announce his official squad for the AFCON tournament, the provisional squad readies themselves for three friendly matches while camping in Doha before heading to Cameroon for the AFCON tournament proper.
