West Ham United looked to be challenging for the EPL trophy with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea Fc and the likes. Winning against Manchester United and Chelsea Fc made a strong mark for the Hammers but they could not find their old gel against Southampton at the London Stadium.
Kevin Friend, the center referee after blowing the whistle for the start of game did not have to wait long to point to the centre circle.
Southampton needed only 8 minutes on the clock to announce their presence and to remind the hosts they were not a walkover. Mohammed Elyounoussi connected to a cross from Kyle Walker-Peters and all Lukasz Fabianski could do was to watch the ball roll into his net.
The first half ended with the loan goal scored by Mohammed Elyounoussi separating West Ham and Southampton.
Michail Antonio who was rather quiet in the first half came into play in the second half after pulling parity for West Ham four (4) minute into the second half.
The Hammers could not hold on to the equalizer for long after Southampton were awarded a penalty in the 61st minute. James Ward-Prowse wasted no time as he smashed it into the net to give the Saints another lead.
Said Benrahma, three (3) minutes after James Ward-Prowse’s goal pulled parity for his side. The game was far from over but the display by both teams was commendable.
As West Ham held on for a draw, Southampton looked for a winning and found it in the 70th minute as Jan Bednarek connected to a cross from skipper James Ward-Prowse to give Southampton their third goal which was enough to win them maximum points.
With 6 minutes of added time, West Ham United seemed to have the chance to pull parity but the visitors defended gallantly to ensure they protected their win for maximum points.
