Ghana boosted their chances of progressing to the next round with a 1-0 victory Senegal in the first leg of the second qualifying round for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, India 2022 in Thies.
The Black Maidens required the late solitary effort of Princess Owusu to gain a first leg triumph against their Senegalese hosts at Stade Lat-Dior.
The Ghanaians were the better side in terms of possession as the young Lionesses had to defend for their lives in most period of the first half to ensure a goalless draw at half time.
After the break, the Black Maidens endured their moments of struggles when Malado Diallo came close but couldn’t find the back of the net within seconds into the second half.
In the 70th minute, Diallo threatened the visitors defence again but the Ghanaians escaped the danger and eventually carried the day thanks to Owusu’s brilliant header two minutes from regulation time.
With an away win, the Maidens will seek to consolidate on their narrow first leg lead when they welcome their West African rivals for the second leg in a fortnight in Accra.
