The AOC has congratulated Rugby Australia following World Rugby’s decision to award Australia hosting rights to the Rugby World Cup 2027 for men and Rugby World Cup 2029 for women.
AOC President – Ian Chesterman says the two events are major additions to Australia’s sporting calendar ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
“Well done to everyone at Rugby Australia and those who contributed to the success of this Australian bid.
“The growing stature of women’s rugby will receive an enormous boost from this, the first women’s Rugby World Cup on Australian soil.
“The men’s Rugby World Cup is one of the great global sports events and it’s fantastic that it will happen on Australian soil for the third time.
“This is massive for rugby as a sport and for Australia as a great destination for major world events. We know sports fans across Australia will be excited to have the world come to Australia.”
The two Rugby World Cup events add to Australia’s green and gold runway leading into Brisbane 2032.
These include the FIBA Women’s World Cup [basketball] later this year, the UCI World Road Cycling Championships also this year, the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year and a host of international championships across a range of Olympic sports.
