Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured the Ghanaian Women’s Cup and sealed their first domestic double for 13 years with a 1-0 victory over Hasaacas Ladies.
A fortnight ago, Ampem Darkoa had celebrated their third Women’s Premier League crown and first since 2017 after edging Hasaacas 5-4 triumph on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side only needed Comfort Yeboah’s 17th minute strike from the spot to secure the FA Cup at the expense of holders Hasaacas Ladies.
It marks the first ever FA Cup triumph for the Techiman based outfit and means their first ever season double, making them the second Ghanaian side to complete the domestic double following Hasaacas’ successes in 2021.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies will represent Ghana at the WAFU B qualifying tournament in Cote d’Ivoire from August 13 to 27 in Abidjan, where they will seek qualification to the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
Reacting to the team’s season double, Nana Ampem Darkoa III, one of the club’s sponsors, expressed joy over their title feats and excitement of breaking Hasaacas domestic jinx in Ghana.
“We are very confident that with this kind of performance, we can go very far in the two competitions,” said Ampem Darkoa III.
“Our target is to win the WAFU edition and qualify us for the African version where the challenge will be bigger and stronger.”
Former Ghana champions Hasaacas Ladies won the 2021 edition of WAFU B qualifying tournament and went on to finish as runners-up in the inaugural continental showpiece in Egypt.
Ahead of their WCL campaign, Ampem Darkoa will aim to surpass the feat Hasaacas and the club’s sponsor is counting on the corporate sector to achieve a regional and continental quest.
“At this moment, we want to call on the government and the private sector to support us financially and other forms of support,” she continued.
“This is not a burden we can carry along. We need everyone on board to support our preparation and participation in the two competitions. With determination and the support from Ghanaians, we can make the difference in Africa.”
