ASEC Mimosas will represent Cote d’Ivoire in next season’s TotalEnergies Champions League after they won the country’s top flight league for this term.
The Abidjan-based club continue their dominance of the Ivorian top-flight league after claiming a record-extending 28th title with some matches to spare.
The Mimos clinched their latest Ligue 1 with two matches left in the 2021-22 league campaign, making it a back-to-back title success.
ASEC lead the league with 64 points from 25 matches with one last round of fixtures to conclude the campaign this week.
This means they cannot be overtaken by second-placed Sporting Gagnoa who have 49 points, making it impossible to overtake the leaders.
ASEC beat second-placed SC Gagnoa 2-0 at the Stade de Yamoussoukro to stretch their advantage in the league standings on Sunday.
Goals by Pacome Zouzoua and Kramo Aubin helped the Mimos to seal the victory and further confirm their dominance over their rivals in the league.
ASEC have recorded 20 victories, four draws and have lost just once after 25 rounds of matches this season cementing their status as one of the best sides in the league.
They will play against SO Armée at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan on Thursday which is a mere formality since they already have the league title.
The title success means ASEC book their ticket to participate in the CAF Champions League next season after the championship triumph.
They made it to the group stages of the Confederation Cup last term after suffering elimination in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League .
