Hosts Ghana reached the last four of the WAFU B U17 Championship after defeating neighbours Togo 3-0 in Cape Coast on Friday.
The Black Starlets scored all the three goals in the second-half of the Group A game to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Goals from Pius Adua, Abdul Razak Salim and Collins Agyapong were all the home side needed to advance from the tricky group that includes youth football giants Nigeria.
The victory ensures that Ghana will finish second in the three-team group despite losing 4-2 to Nigeria in their earlier group game.
The Golden Eaglets has already secured the top spot in the group after defeating Ghana and Togo 4-2 and 3-1 respectively, Friday’s match was the decider over who pick’s the group second slot in the semi-finals.
With the desire to clinch the group’s last ticket to the last four, the two sides went all out at the start of the game with the Ghanaians slightly ahead in the early exchanges.
The Black Starlets had decent opportunities under 15 minutes but Yakubu Adams and Mohammed Rufaai spurned the chances.
Moments later Komlan Dzidziwu’s curling free-kick created some anxious moments for the Ghanaians before goalkeeper Komlan Kiti tipped Adams’ long-range effort over.
The Black Starlets returned from the break and continued their dominance which allowed Adua to break the deadlock in the 54th minute from close range.
Keen on extending their lead, Ghana hit the woodwork three times before Salifu outwitted his marker in the 77th minute to make it 2-0.
The Black Starlets sealed the victory when the captain converted the penalty after the Togolese defender Kokou Doto handled the ball in the box to steer the hosts to the last four.
Ghana and Nigeria will know their opponents in the semi-finals after Saturday’s matches between Benin and Niger as well as the clash Burkina Faso versus Cote d’Ivoire are settled.
