FC Nouadhibou won their fifth Mauritania top-flight league title in a row on Sunday following their 1-0 victory over Kaédi FC.

The Oranges clinched the trophy with two matches remaining after opening an unassailable points lead over their second-placed Tevragh-Zeïna of Nouakchott.

Going into Sunday’s match, Nouadhibou had a four-point lead over the team from Nouakchott who had to win to keep the pressure on the title holders.

But with Tevragh-Zeïna dropping points to allow Nouadhibou to go 54 points, that is seven points more than the latter and with two matches remaining, it means the champions cannot be overtaken.

This confirmed Nouadhibou as champions of the Mauritanian championship two match days before the end of the season.

Nouadhibou won the title despite the departure of their Comorian coach Amir Abdou who left the position in March to coach the Mauritania national team.

They won the title under the leadership of the Tunisian Wissem Maaref who took over after the exit of Abdou as Tunisian settled early in the job because he was the assistant of the previous coach.

It is also the tenth league title for FC Nouadhibou and the club will represent Mauritania in the TotalEnergies African Champions League 2022-2023.

djoliba

Meanwhile, Djoliba won the Mali FA Cup after their 2-0 victory over Real Bamako in the 61st edition of the final on Saturday.

The goals in either half by Ousmane Coulibaly in the 37th minute and Hamidou Sinayoko with just four minutes remaining sealed the title.

Djoliba thus win their 20th FA Cup in Mali while Real Bamako remained stuck at its tenth title.
