This summer the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) will host a variety of sports, setting the stage for a buzzing atmosphere and an exciting opportunity to see a host of gripping games and matches all within the surroundings of one venue.
The NEC is set to be one of the busiest venues, hosting five sports and two Para sports during the Games. From 28 July to 8 August, this prime setting will become a lively location for visitors to enjoy a multitude of Games action, all in one go.
Outside the sport Arenas and Halls spectators can visit the NEC Fan Park, channel their inner athlete at the Have a Go areas or find a nearby deckchair to catch more action and big screen activity! Netball: A synchronised team sport with agility, power and determination To sum it up: seven a side, 60 minutes to a game, three seconds to pass the ball once in possession, sharp focus and terrific footwork is imperative to bag the Gold.

Table Tennis and Para Table Tennis: Opponents go head-to-head at lightning speed To sum it up: Batting from side to side, the first to 11 points with a two-point lead is the champion, relentless rallies keep you in high anticipation, you won’t want to blink, or you’ll miss it!

Weightlifting: Solo sport designed to test the body and mind To sum it up: Athletes will complete a snatch (a one-move lift with a wide grip), and the clean and jerk (a close-gripped, two-part lift), three attempts in each of the two disciplines, then the weight is steadily increased and a winner is declared. And what’s more, all our weightlifting sessions are medal sessions too!

Boxing: Intensity, passion and focus within the ring To sum it up: Determined focus, shown through a number of three-minute rounds, one corner of the ring assigned to each boxer and a series of punches, kicks and strikes are displayed to take the opponent down and a title-holder is found.

Badminton: Outrageous rallies and precise, fierce competition To sum it up: scored to 21 points, the best of three games, with no absence of some smashing shots and cunning spin and drop shots that keep you on the edge of your seat.
