The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the fourth edition of the KGL Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship.
The championship is to help discover and nurture young talents.
The championship, among others, is part of the effort lined up by the GFA to develop juvenile football in the country.
Dr Ransford Anertey Abbey, Executive Council Member of the GFA speaking at the short ceremony showered praises on KGL Foundation for being a pillar in sports development.
Through the KGL U17 Colts Championship, we have seen remarkable contributions to our national teams’ corps. Three of the last batch of the National U17 players who participated in the recently held WAFU Zone B championships were discovered through these championships,” he revealed.
He said the third edition, which was held in Kumasi, helped in enhancing the level of inclusivity that the GFA was keen on promoting.
He urged participating teams to be disciplined and give out their best to make this year’s event successful. Mr. Nii Sarpei, Programmes Manager of KGL Foundation expressed delight following the growth of the championship since its inception in 2021.
“On behalf of the foundation, and its CEO Mr. Elliot Dadey, I would like to express how happy we are at facilitating the fourth KGL Foundation U17 Inter-Regional Colts Football Tournament.”
He said the tournament, which began with few audiences, had seen massive transformation in its fourth year, which was a mark of the great work KGL Foundation and the GFA had put into the event.
He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to developing sports, most especially football at the juvenile level.
Mr. Sarpei thanked the GFA and other partners for the role they have played in reviving Colts football.
This year’s edition would be held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence from 25th July to 8th August 2024.
Participating teams would receive 50 footballs, two sets of cones, two sets of bibs, and two sets of match jerseys from KGL.
