Three times Ghanaian Paralympian and Commonwealth Games participant, Mr. Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe on Friday presented three brand new sports wheelchairs from Topend to three promising disabled athletes at a short but very impressive ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The beneficiaries were 14 years old Perpetual Sabbah, 22 years old Emmanuel Gyasi and young Fadiga Mohammed all of Gogetdem Club. They expressed appreciation and promised to train hard to win and make themselves and the nation proud.
In attendance to witness the presentation were Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Alhaji Majeed Bawa, PRO of the NSA Mr. Charles Amofa and Madam Millicent Aidoo, a mother of disabled athletes.
Alhaji Bawa commended Botsyo Nkegbe for his initiative and promised to support to raise and train more disabled sportsmen and women as they target the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
He hinted that Coach Botsyo Nkegbe will soon enroll to stydy and be certified at the University of Education at Winneba.
He noted that Para Sports has come to stay, and it can get the disabled people out of the streets begging and keep them busy.
Mr. Botsyo Nkegbe told the media he is not selfish, but rather wants to create more champions to represent the nation. He thanked the NSA for employing him as a coach to train disabled sportsmen and women.
Gogetdem Wheelchair Racing Club was established in August 2012 by Botsyo Nkegbe to improve the lives of disabled persons, especially the disabled youth in rural areas using sports as a tool to create opportunities in order to empower them to live fulfilling lives.
