German legend Bruno Labbadia named new Nigeria coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Germany international Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 57-year-old takes charge of the finalists of the recent TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, following the departure of previous coach Finidi George.

The announcement, made via the NFF’s social media channels on Tuesday morning, comes just days before the Super Eagles start their 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Dr Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the NFF, confirmed the decision, stating, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.”

As the 37th head coach of the Super Eagles, Labbadia faces the daunting task of restoring the team’s fortunes and meeting the lofty expectations of the football-mad nation.

Labbadia, a respected figure in German football, brings a wealth of experience to the role.
