Ms. Perpetual Naa Ayikailey Okaijah who won a gold medal for Ghana in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at the 13th African Games, Accra 2023 has been named among 31 personalities and organisations to be honoured at the 10th edition of the prestigious Women In Sports Association (WISA) Awards ceremony on Saturday September 21, 2024.

The event which comes of at the Accra Sports Stadium will see Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah who represented Ghana at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in High Jump being honoured for the third time.

Also to be honoured are hanball star Vida Baffowaa, hockey players Lawrentia Okine of Ghana National Fire Service and SCO Hagar Laryea of Ghana Prisons Service, international fencer Kelsey Woname, sprinters Cynthia Mensah and Nasaara Quansah of Ghana Athletics. 

Three female journalists, Aniela Allotey of TV3, Naa Deide Sampah and Awurabena Adzi of HSTV as well as four male media practitioners who have been supporting female sporting activities will also be honoured. They are Messrs Sammy Heywood Okine aka General One of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), African Sports Media and Omashi TV, Prince Annang of Max TV, Theophilus Sampah of GTV and John Phil Quartey of Metro TV.

Sports supporters. Rashida Iddi and Abigail Twumasiwaa Okantah are recognised in the list just like distinguished personalities like DDG Mrs. Patience Baffoe Bonnie and Captain Andy Sam.

Ms. Betty Dzimah and Thomas Kumordzi of the National Sports Authority (NSA) will be rewarded as well as some members of the Trinity Church. 

Madam Gloria Commodore,  President of WISA and chief financier of the Awards said the 10th edition will be special and congratulated all winners. 

She thanked Ghandour Cosmetics for supporting the event for the past six years.

“The Award has inspired, encouraged and motivated many people over the years and we are glad to be imparting on others” she said.

The veteran Journalist thanked all who promote female sports activities.
