Having collected an impressive four points out of a possible six in their TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifiers, Kenya head coach Engin Fırat is confident of his side’s chances against a much-fancied Cameroon.
Kenya find themselves top of group J, having played out to a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in their first match, before marching onto victory against Namibia, a win that spelt the Harambee Stars’ first win against their opponents away from home.
Next up for Kenya is a stern test against five-time TotalEnergies CAF AFCON winners Cameroon, where their Turkish coach is feeling upbeat over their prospects of getting a full haul of points against the Indomitable Lions when the two sides lock horns in back-to-back clashes on 7 and 15 October.
“Do you think we are easy to play against? Cameroon should think about how they want to crack us. So I’m not afraid of Cameroon. You saw how the boys played against Cote d’Ivoire, Russia, Qatar. So, if we have the boys together, they are very united and they believe in each other,” he said.
Firat displayed his satisfaction made by Kenya under his tutelage, which is yet to see his side taste defeat in the year 2024.
“Let’s face the reality, the boys are unbeaten this year. They have won outside Kenya for the first time, and they managed to win a cup. We got one goal against Namibia otherwise in this season here in six matches, we got three goals. We scored ten goals.
“So I can continue to count how many wins we have outside of Kenya. If people cannot realize this, that there’s nothing I can say. I’m proud of the boys and in my eyes this is only the start”, he concluded.
