Nii Dr. Adote Dzata I has called on the current executive of Ghana Kickboxing Association to be serious in promoting the sport and other combat sports for self defence and protection.

Speaking at the Decathlon Sports Shop at Kawukudi to launch the 2024 African Open which comes off on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium, he said Kickboxing is an interesting and lucrative sport so it should be organised professionally.

Current Vice President of the federation who happens to be the promoter. Steavano Tuekpe said it is not only about fighting but other things that makes one disciplined are derived from the sport.

Mr Yakubu Abdul Razak aka Commando..President of Ghana Kickboxing said is not a bad sport but a profession as well as a pastime.

He encouraged parents to introduce their children into the sport which is moving fast globally.

He said Ghana has produced world class fighters and champions like Steavano Tuekpe, Lawrence Nmai and Nii Dzata aka Joe Mingle, Alhassan Okine and Gerald Dah.

Yoofi Boham, boxing consultant and former Vice President of GKBA said the federation should be serious in managing and promoting the sport as it is good for self defence.

Let’s avoid actors and pretenders who call themselves fighters and disgrace those who have made names.

He also urged the fighters to train and come into the ring fully fit.

Three titles will be at stake including the Africa Pro, Inter Continental and Continental belts.

Winners of the African Open 2024 will become ambassadors and promote the sport with the federation.

Representatives from Decathlon and Twellium Industrial producers of Verna Mineral Water promised to support the up coming event and subsequent ones.
