Mr. Charles Osei Asibey. General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) says they are committed to innovation and improved performance in the fields of sports journalism hoping that other stake holders that they promote, especially athletes would also focus on improving themselves in their chosen disciplines.
Speaking at the tape cutting ceremony to open the new office of the Sports Writers Association at the Accra Sports Stadium which also marked their 56th anniversary, he said the secretariat is shaped with the corporate organisations in mind as they would love be to engaged in a conducive and businesslike atmosphere.
He noted that the office would be a hub for sports journalists to work during sporting events as well as a to meet to share ideas for the benefits of Ghana Sports.
He prayed that SWAG members would cherish the facility and maintain it to last long and also be an example for other organisations who have offices at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Mr. Osei Asibey who doubles as Vice President of the Ghana Athletics and President of Ghana Armwrestling Federation hinted that the location is ideal for other federations who wish to engage the services of SWAG and its members.
The opening ceremony was graced by chief patron HE Nii Amarkai Amarteifio, two past presidents. Joe Aggrey and Ebo Quansah as well as former vice president Maurice Quansah, former Treasurer Ms.Rosalind Amoh and Yours Truly, a former Deputy General Secretary.
Also present were some members of the current executive, first female vice president Ms. Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Deputy General Secretary Ken Odeng Adade and Ohene Brenya, an exco member.
Some notable members noticed were Aristo Dotse, Ekow Asmah, Kuuku Yankah. Gloria Peprah, Adoa Kwofie, Emmanuel Yeboah, Joojo Ephson, Kofi Asare Brako, Augustus Dodoo, Gabriel Obu. Akosua Adjei and others.
Federations represented included Swimming. Armwrestling, Badminton, Bowling, Breaking, Boxing, Athletics, Handball, Weightlifting, Skating and Baseball.
The Ghana Sports Supporters led by Abraham Nkansah were also in attendance to spice the grand and memorable occasion with music as well as some friends of SWAG.
