The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) on Friday opened their new ultra modern furnished secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The colourful ceremony was witnessed by Chief Patron HE Amarkai Amartefio, former Presidents Joe Aggrey and Ebo Quansah and some sports federation heads.
The Chief Director at the Ministry of Youth & Sports Mr. William Kartey who represented the Sports Minister hailed the leadership of the Sports Writers for their vision and commitment to rally all members in their fraternity and find an abode to execute their functions.
He commended the National Sports Authority (NSA) for granting the edifice in a central point where the media usually meet.
He noted that the Ministry is focused on sports for development to aid all associated with sports.
He advised the media to report extensively on the little achievements than the negatives.
Alhaji Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the NSA said it is their obligation to house the Sports Writers and all federations to work together.
He appealed the media to always cross check news stories before publishing.
The President of SWAG, Mr Kwabena Yeboah dedicated the day to the first president of SWAG, the late Joe Lartey aka “Over to you who was honoured by the AIPS before his demise.
He expressed that SWAG has come far since 1968 and commended all past executives and entire membership as well as sponsors.
“A new chapter has opened in SWAG and we hope to use this office to promote the image of the association” he stressed
Chief Patron HE Amarkai Amartefio, past Presidents Joe Aggrey, Ebo Quansah and Chairman of GHALCA. Kudjoe Fianoo were awarded special SWAG gold medals for their valuable services to the organisation.
The Ghana Sports Supporters led by Abraham Nkansah were in attendance to offer entertainment.
Ebo Quansah advised Sports Journalists to be responsible.
Joe Aggrey noted that the SWAG Club House at Dansoman must also be renovated and put to positive use as that is the home of the Association.
