Mr. Patrick Johnson, Secretary General of Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GHAMMAF) and Ghana Adaptive Boxing Council (GABC) believes the introduction of Para Boxing in Ghana is an opportunity for people with disability who can box to showcase their talent. .
He said apart from training and gaining fit as a leisure activity, it can also be a lucrative chance for competition at special events in Ghana and other countries.
Speaking on Omashi TV, he disclosed that Ghana has been picked as one of the best boxing nations in Africa, after South Africa and Kenya, while some para boxers will soon be selected to Poland for the show organised by Seven Star Promotion. There are other events in the United States of America which lucky and hard working boxers can attract.
He advised all boxers and coaches to train well to produce quality performance and get the selection.
He commended Mr. Hubert Kozub, CEO of Seven Star Promotion who has been organising world class professional para boxing events for visiting the motherland and assuring the boxers of the opportunities.
The Ghana Adaptive Boxing Federation in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) staged an exhibition on fight night 5 of the third edition of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Mr. Johnson who served as Secretary General for Ghana Bodybuilding, Ghana Taekwondo, Ghana Shooting and Ghana Table Tennis said sports is an avenue for changing lives and urged people with disabilities to take sports activities seriously.
He noted that Ghana Boxing has much to do, however it depends on the leadership of the administration. He hailed Lawyers Moses Foh Amoaning and Peter Zwennes, the former GBA presidents for raising the sport and image of Ghana to the world level.
“We have seen more promotions in recent times and more boxers are coming on board, which is good ” he expressed.
He appealed to companies and well to do individuals to support the disability sports.
14 years of sacrifice and service and still moving on makes him one of the experienced technical officials at the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Patrick Johnson is an all round sportsman and sports lover. He plays football, volleyball, table tennis and can sing praises at the Love Community Chapel.
He is Vice Chairman of the regional boxing body, the Association of Professional Boxing Commission (APBC), in charge of championship belts.
The very jovial guy is a Masters Degree graduate of the Malaysian based OUM and also went to Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) in Accra, Ghana.
