… Two Females Join New Executive Board

Samson Deen has been re – elected as President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana, after coming out unopposed at the 2024 Elective General Assembly held at the Accra Digital Center on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

The EGA was organized under the theme: “effective and efficient leadership key to development and promotion of para sports” 

Deen who is currently the President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC) was elected alongside Evans Yeboah – Vice President, Henry Larbi – General Secretary and Richard Teinor – Treasurer. 

Four executive members who won the contest to serve on the board were Iddriss Ayishetu Farida, Foster Kwarteng, Mary Apedo, and Anthony Gyening.

Madam Anne Doe who stepped down for Evan Yeboah was appointed Chairperson of the Women In Para Sports, with Saddick Obama, head of the media / publicity committee. Former presidents would also form an advisory patrons board for the NPC.

Samson Deen became president in 2019, after beating Shabaan Mohammed, the Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Association.

His first term saw Ghana hosting the first African Para Games, where the Black Challenge (Amputee Football Team) won the football tournament. He led the Ghana Amputee team to be crowned champions of Africa in Amputee Football and championed the qualification of a number of para athletes to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Speaking to the media, Deen said the NPC is on a new phase and focus is on preparations towards the next Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. He was happy that the new board has two ladies leading to gender parity.

“The membership of the Paralympic movement deemed it wise to retain me. Today’s event shows that we have a new face and a new direction to ensure that Ghana is represented at the LA 2028 Paralympic Games in the USA,” he said.

“Our main goal as the NPC board is to establish a strong base for para-sports associations in the country and use that foundation to develop athletes who can compete on the global stage. We’ll need everyone’s support to take para-sports to the next level.”

He thanked the previous administration, Electoral Commission, the various para federations, Ghana Supporters Union, the Media and all Ghanaians who have good heart for para sports.

Deputy Sports Minister Hon. Evan s Opoku Bobie who graced the EGA said Samson brought glory and achievements to the NPC as president of both Ghana and Africa as there has been a significant growth and expansion of para sports.

He acknowledged his role and performance at the 13th African Games where he was in charge of Transportation. 

17 out of 21 affiliate federations to the NPC participated in the clean, transparent, free and fair elections.
