It is an undeniable fact that boxing has provided the nation Ghana with the needed impetus required to be popular in the world and put her on the global map.

The ten(10) world titles Ghana won, were made possible by David Kotei Poison, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Clottey, Emmanuel Tagoe, Isaac Dogboe and Richard Commey. All of these great champions fought under the flag of Ghana and provided a matchless achievements compare to any sporting discipline in Ghana.

When it comes to Africa and commonwealth titles, records provided more than fifty (50) Ghanaian boxers who have emerged champions in different classes of weights and still counting…..

After all these achievements in boxing over the years, boxing once again broke the jinx of Ghana medal drought at the olympic games with a bronze medal through Samuel Takyi at Tokyo 2020 after 29 years of waiting.Need I say more ?

The current Ghana Boxing Authority President,Abraham Kotei Neequaye, submitted after he was sworn-in as the
President in April 22,2021that he’s going to present a new face of boxing under his leadership.

Abraham Kotei Neequaye emphasised on the need to have serious and credible boxers who have the passion and desire to help nib in the bud the era of condoning with lazy and half-baked(journey men) boxers in the system.

Since Kotei Neequaye took over the reign of professional boxing, there’s a significant improvement in the quality of boxers we have seen fought at various boxing events over the past couple of weeks.

After he sounded the caution to boxers and their handlers of withdrawing licence of any boxer seen exhibiting poor boxing artistry, there seems to be discipline, sanity and commitment on the part of boxers regarded as half-baked or lazy.

The Sowah brothers demonstrated the need to discourage stage-managed fights in our system if we want to help transform the sport and create wealth for all.

The biological brothers provided patrons at the Idrowwhyt Event Center at Akokofoto,Dansoman and cherished viewers of Max Television the needed excitements and fulfilment any boxing fan may anticipate in a crucial boxing bout.

At the Saturday weigh-in ahead of the fight on Sunday December 26th(Boxing day),many individuals who came around raised their eyebrows as to whether the two brothers could stand toe to toe and exchange deadly punches at each other to give the real meaning of boxing as a sweet science.

Interestingly, most patrons and viewers did not know the relationship between Isaac Sowah and Daniel Adjei Sowah when the two brothers traded punches fiercely in their scheduled 8 rounds boxing context.

Their family status was shelved during official introduction of the two experience pugilists to keep spectators in suspense till the end of the fight.

Isaac Sowah(younger brother) who fought from the red corner, came into the ring with a weight of 159 pounds. He had a total fight of 27, 8 losses,19 victories with 13 of the victories came by way of knockouts. He goes by the nickname THE HAMMER.

From the blue corner was Daniel Adjei Sowah(elder brother),he weighed 158 pounds with an official record of 29 fights,6 defeats,21 victories,2 draws with 14kos.He also goes by the nickname THE HITMAN.

Isaac(The Hammer) Sowah made his professional boxing debut in 2000.In 2012 failed to win the Africa Boxing Union(ABU) title against Patrice Sou Toke from Burkina Faso and lost by a TKO.

He had the opportunity to redeem his image for the same title against Charles Manyuchi in 2013 but failed.Again,in 2013,his compatriot Frederick Lawson defeated him to win the International Boxing Federation(IBF)Continental Africa welterweight title.

Isaac Sowah has been described by many boxing pundits as a complete boxer full of skills and very ambitious but could not get to the desire level in his boxing career due to the lack of managerial and promotional support…

Daniel(The Hitman) Adjei Sowah made his debut in 2002 and had a draw fight in his first national title fight against Kojo Issah in 2007 and gallantly lost in his ABU title fight against Rasheed Abolaji of Nigeria by a TKO.

The Sowah brothers defied any popular convention in boxing concerning biological siblings and provided excellent boxing artistry to the admiration of all those who watched last Sunday’s boxing night from the Idrowwhyt Event Center at Akokofoto,Dansoman.

The biological siblings fought like real boxers and sold out real boxing and provided it real meaning, which eventually, underpinned the clarion call by the GBA president,Abraham Kotei Neequaye on the need for boxers to give off their best regardless of any external circumstances to sell their professional integrity for public ridicule.

Daniel Adjei Sowah(the elder brother) exhibited fight superiority over his younger brother, Isaac Sowah regarding techniques, landed punches, defense, hand speed and ring generalship but Isaac Sowah established himself in the last three rounds and got the judges to pushed the fight to a draw.

Both boxers were satisfied with the fight outcome and indicated that it’s been a long time since they fought each other.

According to Daniel Adjei Sowah, they came out to fight each other to send a message to other boxers who take their boxing career for a joke and allowed themselves to be used irresponsibly by unscrupulous individuals for their selfish interest.

Isaac Sowah seized the opportunity to expressed profound gratitude to Cabic Boxing Promotions and Management,Ghana Boxing Authority and Max Television for given them the platform to showcased and reignited their boxing prowess.

Information available to GBA from boxing fans in the country and beyond who watched the fight via Max TV and social media live streaming commended the two brothers for a wonderful fight.

The Sowah brothers must be applauded for their efforts last Sunday. They provided a sellout of a fight to the admiration of all.

I believe, for us to get other boxers to emulate the shining examples of the Sowah brothers, some kind of recognition or acknowledgement must be extended to the Sowah brothers to serve as motivation to others.

Time to celebrate and reward hard work and discourage laziness and mediocrity in Ghana boxing is now!!!!
