The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has hosted the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the national arm wrestling team, the Golden Arms, at his residence to celebrate their victory at the just-ended 2026 African and Para Arm wrestling Championship held in Accra.
The Ghana team emerged overall winners of the championship after a dominant performance at the Borteyman Sports Complex, topping the medals table with 71 gold, 63 silver and 34 bronze medals, and amassing a total of 1,262 points.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Allotey said the achievement of the team deserved to be celebrated because the athletes had defended the national flag with distinction.
He said when the leadership of the Ghana Arm wrestling Federation first approached him ahead of the championship, he assured them of his support but urged them to ensure they won medals for the country.

According to him, the team had fulfilled its side of the commitment by winning more than 63 gold medals and a total of 168 medals, adding that it was only proper for the Assembly to honour them.
Mayor Allotey announced that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would establish a 30-member arm wrestling team made up of selected members of the national team.
The Mayor disclosed that members selected would assist with revenue mobilisation activities, including ticketing and would receive monthly payments, with opportunities to earn additional income through commission-based work.
He commended the Golden Arms for making Ghana proud and encouraged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to greater achievements.
On his part, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Arm wrestling Federation, expressed appreciation to the Mayor for his support, encouragement, and hospitality.
Mr Asibey said the gesture meant a lot to the Federation because it showed that the team had a home and a dependable source of support at the Office of the Mayor of Accra.
The leadership of the Ghana Arm wrestling Federation later presented a plaque to the Mayor in appreciation of his support.
The plaque, bearing the crest of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, celebrated “10 years of pulling together” and carried the inscription: “Your support made every victory possible.”
