Antoine Semenyo has set a clear tone ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Austria, insisting the Black Stars are determined to secure a win as part of their World Cup preparations.

Ghana will take on the European side on Friday, March 27, at the Ernst Happel Stadium, in what is expected to be a key test for head coach Otto Addo and his squad.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Manchester City forward made it clear that the team is focused on delivering a strong performance.

“Hopefully, [I’m] expecting a win. We want to make a statement: we are preparing for the World Cup, so hopefully a win,” the 26-year-old said.

The match forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with another high-profile friendly against Germany scheduled for March 30 in Stuttgart.

After disappointing group-stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, the Black Stars are aiming to show significant improvement on the global stage this time around.

Friday’s clash, which kicks off at 17:00 GMT, offers Ghana an early opportunity to build momentum and confidence as they gear up for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
