Paraguay secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Turkey in their 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage match at Levi’s Stadium.
Matias Galarza gave Paraguay a dream start, scoring just under two minutes from kick-off to put the South Americans in front early.
Despite dominating possession for long periods, Turkey were unable to break down a resilient Paraguayan defence.
The game took a dramatic turn at half-time when Paraguay were reduced to ten men following Miguel Almiron’s red card. However, the underdogs showed great character and discipline to protect their slim lead until the final whistle.
The defeat means Turkey have lost back-to-back matches and become the second team to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, following Haiti.
Paraguay will face Australia in their next group game on June 26, while Turkey take on hosts USA on the same day.
