Ipswich Town have announced the signing of 22-year-old Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu, who has joined from Leicester City. Portman Road is now his new home.
Fatawu, born Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in Tamale, Ghana on 8 March 2004, is a right-sided attacker known for his pace, dribbling, and creativity. Standing at 1.77m, he is a full international for Ghana. He joined Leicester permanently in summer 2024 and impressed with 44 appearances, nine goals, and eight assists in the most recent season despite the Foxes’ challenges.
Ipswich’s transfer is reportedly worth around £20 million, another substantial investment as they prepare for the Premier League campaign. This follows their fourth major summer signing, including the club-record arrival of striker Emersonn from Toulouse, along with Chuba Akpom and Cedric Kipre.
Ipswich, under new manager Gary O’Neil, aim to secure their place in the top flight after promotion. O’Neil’s experience in keeping sides competitive at this level, and the addition of a young, exciting wide player like Fatawu, should strengthen their attack as the season progresses.
Fatawu is expected to link up with his new teammates soon and could feature in pre-season preparations.
