Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation is set to unveil the Local Organising Committee (LOC) that will lead preparations for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, with Ghana gearing up to host the continent’s premier youth football tournament.
The committee is expected to bring together representatives from government, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and key sectors involved in delivering the competition. It will oversee planning and coordination across areas including competition operations, venues, logistics, security, accommodation, transport, marketing and media.
The announcement marks another milestone in Ghana’s preparations after CAF awarded the country the hosting rights for the 2027 tournament. The LOC will serve as the central body responsible for ensuring the tournament is delivered in line with CAF’s organisational and operational standards.
Hosting the championship presents Ghana with another opportunity to showcase its experience in staging major football events while providing a platform for Africa’s emerging talent.
The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is the continent’s flagship youth competition and also serves as the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Ghana boasts a proud tournament history, having won the title four times including a memorable victory at home in 1999. Their most recent triumph came in 2021.
The Ministry is expected to outline the committee’s composition and responsibilities when it officially unveils the LOC, as preparations for the 2027 tournament gather pace.
