Medeama SC are back at the top of the Ghana Premier League following an emphatic 4-0 win over Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
It was a statement by Ibrahim Tanko to annex this season’s title after recent bad results have seen them drop from the top of the table.
Asante Kotoko’s interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu wanted a win as he has recently come under fire, particularly for the 2-1 loss to FC Samartex in their last game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
At the TnA Stadium, an own goal by defender Henry Kwame Ansu opened the scoring just 14 minutes into the game.
Two goals later by Kelvin Obeng and Salim Adams saw the Yellow and Mauves end the first half 3-0, much to the surprise of all the stadium.
Salim Adams added another in the second half to make it 4-0 though the Porcupine Warriors lifted their game in the half.
Sunday’s win sends Medeama SC back to the summit with 53 points, two more than Bibiani Goldstars.
Asante Kotoko, however, continue to drop as their 5th position was taken over by FC Samartex, who accounted 1-0 for Berekum Chelsea.
Kotoko will sit out in the next round of matches following the withdrawal of Hohoe United from the League.
