Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has brushed aside suggestions that Ghana must choose between attacking football and defensive caution against Croatia, insisting his only objective is to win.

There has been growing debate over whether the Black Stars should adopt a conservative approach in Saturday’s decisive Group L encounter, with a draw enough to secure qualification for the Round of 32.

However, Queiroz has rejected the idea that his team will play for a point.

“A lot of talk about attack and defence, but I only know how to play for win, and that’s what we will do against Croatia,” he said.

The Portuguese tactician has built Ghana’s World Cup campaign on defensive organisation, with the Black Stars yet to concede after victories over Panama and a draw against England.

Despite that impressive defensive record, Queiroz’s comments suggest Ghana will not abandon their attacking ambitions against Croatia.

The Black Stars know that a victory could not only secure qualification but also hand them top spot in Group L, depending on England’s result against Panama.

With confidence growing following their impressive start to the tournament, Queiroz believes the best way forward is to continue playing with conviction rather than protecting what his side has already achieved.

Ghana will face Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, aiming to book a place in the knockout stages and extend their unbeaten run under the experienced Portuguese coach.
