Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has ruled out a cautious approach against Croatia, insisting Ghana will play only for victory despite needing just a draw to qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars head into Saturday’s decisive Group L clash on the back of a 1-0 win over Panama and a goalless draw against England, leaving them on four points and in control of their qualification hopes.

A draw would be enough to secure Ghana’s place in the knockout stage, but Queiroz says his side will not change its mentality.

“A lot of talk about attack and defence, but I only know how to play to win, and that’s what we will do against Croatia,” the Portuguese coach said during his pre-match press conference.

Queiroz has transformed Ghana into one of the tournament’s most disciplined teams since taking charge in April, with the Black Stars among only four nations yet to concede a goal after two matches.

The former Portugal, Iran and Real Madrid coach believes his team should remain faithful to its identity rather than play for a draw.

Victory over Croatia would guarantee Ghana a place in the Round of 32 and could also see the Black Stars finish top of Group L, depending on the result between England and Panama.

The four-time African champions are seeking to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals in South Africa in 2010.
