Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says Ghanaians should put behind the trauma of losing their first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier to Ivory Coast and focus on the next game.
Ghana suffered a painful 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast at the Stade de Paix, Boauke, on Thursday with goals from Malick Yalcouye and captain Franck Kessie.
The result puts Ghana tight control ahead of their second qualifier against Gambia, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana will need to recover from their loss, pick up the pieces, and focus on their subsequent games in the qualifiers.
Speaking after the defeat, Coach Queiroz emphasized the need to recover from their painful loss and focus on their next game.
According to the Ex-Portuguese International, the result against Ivory Coast will not dump the team’s spirit but rather ignite the winning mentality.
“We need to recover and focus on winning the next game. This result will not kill our morale,” he said.
Queiroz said he remains confident Ghana will be on the winning side when the Ivorians visit Ghana for the return encounter.
He added that, though the Stars lost painfully, his charges were the better side in terms of attacking, penetration, and creating opportunities.
