Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed that Ghana’s projected expenditure for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is lower than the participation fee allocated by FIFA to qualified nations.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the Minister explained that although FIFA provides substantial financial support to countries competing at the tournament, Ghana is taking a measured approach to its spending.
“FIFA gives every nation that qualifies for the World Cup $10.5 million, and teams that progress beyond the group stage receive more. However, our actual budget for the World Cup is less than that amount,” he said.
The revelation highlights a cautious financial strategy by authorities as preparations intensify for the global showpiece. While FIFA’s funding is intended to support logistics, accommodation, and other operational costs, Adams’ comments suggest Ghana is aiming to manage resources efficiently within a tighter budget framework.
The approach comes amid broader discussions about funding, transparency, and resource allocation in Ghana football, particularly as expectations grow for the Black Stars to deliver a competitive performance.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, with the team set to compete in Group L against England, Croatia, and Panama. As preparations continue, balancing financial discipline with competitive readiness remains a key focus for stakeholders.
