Edward Yamoah Asamoah, an Inspector at Ghana Immigration Service, and captain of Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms says they deserve to be African Champions because they prepared well and competed well.

Speaking to Yours Truely at the Borteyman Sports Complex where the 15th African Armwrestling Championships took place, he gave all the credit to the President of the Ghana and Africa Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, a visionary leader who has brought much interest and patronage into the sport and made many African countries loin the sport.

He commended the pullers of Team Ghana for their discipline and dedication as well as determination to succeed.

Asamoah who won in his weight category and already a decorated athlete who has led the team to multiple successes in African Championship tournaments said they will not rest but train hard for the African Games in Egypt next year.

Under his leadership, the team (Golden Arms) has won more than 400 medals and topped the table at the 2026 African Armwrestling Championship held in Accra with 168 medals.

He thanked the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, National Sports Authority and the executives of Ghana Armwrestling as well as the media and sponsors for the support.

Asamoah is known for his role in leading the team through major international competitions, including the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship in Moldova, the 13th African Games and now the 15th African Championships.

“We hosted and won most of the medals, I hail my colleagues and say well done to every member of  Team Ghana, the Golden Arms, we are truly golden” he expressed
