Ghana captain Sarah Nyarko says the Black Princesses were determined to respond after their disappointing opening defeat to Ecuador at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nyarko scored Ghana’s opening goal in their 3-1 victory over Korea Republic on Wednesday, helping the team revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
The captain admitted the 3-0 defeat to Ecuador motivated the team to approach their second group game with greater determination.
“Today went great because we lost our last match so we were more prepared to win this game,” Nyarko said.
The goal was also a memorable moment for the Ghana captain, who was scoring at the U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
“It was great [to score] as it was my first in the World Cup,” she added.
Nyarko was subsequently named Player of the Match for her performance as Ghana secured a vital three points.
The Black Princesses will now face France in their final group game, knowing another strong performance could secure their place in the Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
