Ghana national teams ambassador Asamoah Gyan has praised the Black Princesses for their impressive performance in the 3-1 victory over Korea Republic at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Gyan, who was in attendance at Arena Sosnowiec to support the team, said he was impressed by the passion and determination shown by the players after their disappointing opening defeat to Ecuador.
Speaking to 3Sports in Poland, the former Ghana captain said the team’s fighting spirit was evident before the game and eventually translated into their performance on the pitch.
“It has been a very impressive performance for Ghana and for the girls. We came here to support as well. Coming here, we came here to motivate them,” Gyan said.
“Coming here, we could see the passion and the determination in the eyes of the girls. That is what manifested into the game today.”
Gyan said his role was to motivate and guide the young players as they pursue a historic place in the knockout stages.
“So we are here to guide them. We came here to give them our motivation. You saw me throwing my hands all over the place. It’s all about when you’re passionate about the game,” he added.
The Black Princesses responded strongly after losing 3-0 to Ecuador in their opening Group C game, with captain Sarah Nyarko, Ivy Osei Owusu and Ruth Amponsah scoring against Korea Republic.
Gyan believes the players delivered what was required to secure the crucial three points.
“Honestly, the girls did what they had to do to win today’s game and good stuff,” he said.
Ghana will now face France in their final group game, with a place in the Round of 16 at stake.
