The Ghana Rugby Ladies hosted an incredible International Women’s Day celebration on March 8th, and the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium was alive with talent, passion, and joy.
Ghana Rugby consistently marks International Women’s Day by highlighting women’s empowerment in sports, featuring special tournaments and initiatives aimed at developing the women’s game.
Led by its president, Ms. Rafatu Inusah, the union emphasizes equality, aiming to make Ghana a powerhouse for women’s rugby in Africa. The day featured competitive matches between Griffon Ladies and Success Foundation Ladies, with Griffon Ladies from Cape Coast taking the win, and a fierce contest between Conquerors Ladies and Kayayei Ladies, where Conquerors Ladies came out on top.
The event included a thrilling 15s training session, powerful speeches, and the warmth of a community of women who love this sport, making it a memorable day. None of this would have been possible without the incredible president, Ms. Rafatu Inusah, who led the day with grace and energy, and every single person who showed up to celebrate.

According to Rafatu, it was a great day for ladies, not only coming together to play and have fun but also to discuss the way forward for Women’s Rugby in Ghana. “Clearly, the women are really ready to push themselves and are committed to the cause,” she said. “We have worked very hard today, and it’s a good cause. I take this opportunity to salute all women as we celebrate International Women’s Day.”

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman in the Ghana Rugby family. Keep playing. Keep showing up. Keep inspiring.
