A four-day training programme for Premier League match officials is under way at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, following the opening round of fixtures over the weekend.
The course began on Monday, 7 September 2026, and will continue until Thursday, 10 September, as officials prepare for the demands of the new domestic football season.
A total of 28 Premier League referees and 28 Premier League assistant referees are taking part in the programme. They are joined by five FIFA male referees, six FIFA assistant referees and four FIFA female referees.
The group also includes five Catch Them Young referees and five assistants, along with five Support Premier Assistant Referees.
The programme is designed to strengthen the officials’ technical knowledge, decision-making and overall performance. It will combine classroom-based theory with practical work focused on key areas of modern match officiating.
Among the central topics are recent changes to the Laws of the Game, the interpretation of offside decisions, handball incidents and the management of tactical fouls.
The training is intended to ensure officials have the latest understanding of the laws and the practical tools required to handle matches effectively and consistently.
It will also give referees and assistants the opportunity to develop greater confidence in applying decisions as Ghana’s domestic football season progresses.
The intensive nature of the four-day programme reflects the demands placed on match officials at the highest level of domestic football. Participants will be expected to apply the lessons from the theoretical sessions during the practical elements of the course.
The opening round of Premier League fixtures was completed over the weekend, with the programme now providing officials with further preparation as the season continues.
By bringing together Premier League, FIFA, Catch Them Young and Support Premier Assistant Referees, the course covers a broad range of officials involved in Ghanaian football.
The organisers expect the sessions to improve consistency in decision-making and support the effective management of matches throughout the campaign. Particular attention will be given to situations that regularly require careful interpretation, including offside, handball and tactical fouls.
The officials will remain at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram until the course concludes on Thursday, 10 September 2026. After completing the programme, they will return to their respective roles with the new season under way.
