Mohammed Fuseini has been handed a late call-up to the Black Stars after Mohammed Kudus withdrew from Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Derby County forward will join Carlos Queiroz’s squad for the September international window, which includes qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, followed by a friendly against Morocco.

Fuseini, 24, returns to the national team more than a year after making his Ghana debut at the 2025 Unity Cup in London. He came off the bench against Nigeria before starting against Trinidad and Tobago, scoring in Ghana’s 4-0 victory in the third-place play-off.

His recall comes after a promising weekend with Derby. Fuseini came off the bench against Burnley and scored a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor, his first goal since joining the Championship club on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise.

Fuseini had not received another senior international invitation since the Unity Cup, but his recent club form has now earned him another opportunity under Queiroz.

His inclusion follows Kudus’ decision to withdraw after returning from a lengthy injury lay-off, while Prince Adu Kwabena’s availability is also uncertain after he suffered a head injury for Viktoria Plzen.
