The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is working to establish a stronger pathway linking Colts football to the professional game and Ghana’s national teams.
At the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday, September 15, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku stressed the importance of ensuring that grassroots football serves as a foundation for the next generation of Ghanaian players.
“Our Colts system must not exist in isolation. There must be a clear connection between grassroots football and the professional game,” Simeon-Okraku said.
He said the development pathway should enable talented players to progress from community football through the regional and elite levels before reaching professional clubs and the national teams.
“The journey should take them further; to professional football, to national team selection and, for the very best, to the international stage.”
The GFA President also urged clubs in the country’s top divisions to recognise Colts football as an important source of emerging talent.
The strategy is aimed at creating a structured route for young players to progress from grassroots football into professional and international football.
