Carlos Queiroz has confirmed he will remain in charge of Ghana’s Black Stars, ending uncertainty over the national team’s leadership and immediately setting his sights beyond the next major tournament.
In a message to Ghanaian supporters, the Portuguese coach framed his continued tenure as a responsibility that extends well beyond the touchline.
“Serving Ghana is far more than coaching a football team,” Queiroz wrote. “It is a privilege, a responsibility and a mission.”
The decision keeps Queiroz at the centre of Ghana’s next phase after the 2026 World Cup, where he believes the Black Stars regained some of the identity and competitiveness that had been missing.
Queiroz praised the players, technical staff and Ghana Football Association for their work during the tournament, saying their “courage, discipline and commitment restored belief, competitiveness and the Pride of a Nation.”
Now the challenge changes.
For Queiroz, the Africa Cup of Nations is not simply the next item on Ghana’s calendar. He sees it as the foundation for a longer project aimed at producing a Black Stars side capable of competing at the 2030 World Cup.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is much more than our next destination,” he said. “It is the golden gateway to building the Black Stars that will shine and proudly compete at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.”
That makes the next AFCON cycle an important test of whether the progress Queiroz believes Ghana made at the World Cup can be sustained.
His message was also built around unity, with the coach calling for a team capable of reconnecting the national side with its supporters.
“Our ambition is clear: improve every day, unite the nation, make Ghana stronger and fight for every victory with passion, humility and pride,” he wrote.
Queiroz closed with a slogan that underlines the scale of the task ahead: “One Team. One Nation. 35 Million Hearts. One Heartbeat.”
For Ghana, the message is clear. The World Cup is over, but Queiroz believes the project is only beginning.
