Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has outlined the broader purpose behind ongoing fundraising efforts ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that the initiative is designed not only to facilitate travel but also to ease access to match tickets for Ghanaians abroad.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the Minister explained that the financial drive is aimed at ensuring strong Ghanaian representation at the global tournament, particularly among diaspora communities who face high ticket costs.
“The funds being raised for the World Cup are not only for transporting supporters, but also to cover match tickets for Ghanaians in the diaspora who want to experience the tournament, especially given how expensive the tickets are,” he said.
He further disclosed the scale of the ambition behind the initiative, adding: “Our target is $30m.”
The plan reflects a strategic effort by authorities to mobilise support for the Black Stars while also addressing the financial barriers that often limit fan participation at major international competitions.
With the tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, logistical demands and rising costs are expected to pose significant challenges for travelling supporters.
Government officials believe that a well-structured funding approach will not only boost fan presence but also enhance the team’s morale on the world stage, as Ghana seeks to make a strong impact at the competition.
The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, with expectations high both on and off the pitch as stakeholders work to ensure a coordinated and inclusive campaign.
